City Guide

Before you go

What helps a visit go well: when places open, how to dress and behave, what needs a permit, the weather and how to stay safe.

  • Opening hours

Most places open after Asr until late; many shops close briefly for each prayer.

    • The Prophet’s Mosque is open around the clock.
    • Friday mornings are quiet until after Jumu’ah prayer.
    • “Open now” in the City Guide uses official hours only.
  • Local etiquette

Dress modestly, speak softly and keep photos discreet around the mosques.

    • Cover shoulders and knees; women usually wear an abaya and headscarf in the mosque.
    • Follow staff guidance in and around the mosque.
