Most evenings, a small group of residents in green lanyards stand at the edge of the plazas, answering the same questions in a dozen languages: where to pray, where to eat, how to reach Quba.
The volunteer programme trains them in the history of the central area and in first aid. Many say the best part is the conversations that start with a direction and end with a story.
