Weaving palm fronds in Al-Awali
A family craft kept alive on the farms south-east of the centre.
Every part of the palm has a use. On the farms of Al-Awali, fronds are soaked, split and woven into baskets, mats and fans — a craft passed from mother to daughter.
Farm visits in the cooler months often include a short demonstration, and the pieces are sold at the traditional markets.
